Kicked Out and Lost Everything

I found a tablet different from precursors that had me speak to Dannig. He opened something called an expedition map with two areas to choose from. I picked one and went through a portal he made. I had to set up explosives on an island. While setting them up the game kicked me out. I logged back in and lost everything, including any inclination of there ever having been a quest. WTF?? I already have a damned near impossible time doing anything let alone leveling, and now can't even complete quests AND losing my items...Please tell me you can fix this somehow....
