damage conversion / as extra

I tried to read the article on the wiki and I still can't make sense of it. if you use some sort of damage conversion does it affect damage that you have "gain as extra"? for example if you use infernal cry, you "gain as extra" but if you also have valakos vice, will that gain as extra then convert to lightning? if you don't have rakiatas or a decent amount of pen + exposure then it seems like that extra damage sent doing near as much. I'm doing like an ice spear titan, and if I could convert my infernal cry to lighting damage to get better more reliable shocks it would be sooooo much better than the fire damage I get from it.
