Splitting Steel Support Gems
Trying to optimize and wanted to insert Concentrated Effect (+37% dps) for Elemental Focus (+38% dps) since it prevents me from shocking enemies.
![]() But only one guy on PoBNinja uses it and his name is Ralphie. Ofc now im questioning it. Also, the non damaging Window in PoB Calc is greyed out. Why is that? ![]() Im bad at math. Last edited by LoTharios#3338 on Sep 20, 2025, 12:55:46 PM Last bumped on Sep 22, 2025, 10:06:24 AM

I think you can get overlap damage on SS with the AOE? Might be why it is not getting used. Doesn't necessarily mean it is better for what you are doing, if you are getting use from having the ailments.
I don't think it is greyed out. I think it might be highlighted, indicating that some non damaging ailment is applying, rather than not, with EF. I test on my POB > SS > not highlighted + added lightning damage > highlighted + EF > not highlighted Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 20, 2025, 2:11:26 PM

Belegur saves the day as so often... thx mate
For the overlaps, how do i figure that out? Visually no difference as i see it. Im bad at math.

I don't know for sure. I just think that if it hits a pack it can explode and the aoe from separate Proj should be able to shotgun. I don't think the AOE's are very big, it might be enough that Conc effect lessens the overlap chance though. You might be able to find a video of someone showing the area, I think it is a bit difficult to see in game.
I'm reading a reddit post about testing SS overlap with proccing poison hits on single target, saying they think it is mainly positioning that is important, being close to target, and that conc effect doesn't reduce the overlaps much, unless you also have proj speed. Title is "Test of Splitting Steel overlaps" by schnoobins, from 2 years ago. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 20, 2025, 4:33:06 PM

Yeah probably like most POE questions depends on many factors and different goals.
You have been playing a lot of different top end builds. What has been your favorite of late? |

That's a difficult question to answer.
My goal has always been to find one allrounder that I could dump all my currency into. I haven't found it yet. Everyone has their role, like Kinetic Blast Hiero for AFK Blight. But it was a glass cannon. CWS Chieftain is a great AFK Ultimatum farmer, but with extremely low boss damage. Energy Blade Necro had great potential, but I didn't like the playstyle. That might change when Mercenaries becomes standard. Bleed Glad was okay, but I don't like the inconsistent retaliation mechanic, and without it, the damage wasn't particularly high. Also, it wasn't as tanky as I had hoped. Maybe it will be great with Azadi Crest once it's available in standard. LS Slayer with 10 Frenzy Charges was my biggest disappointment considering the investment. Theoretically, it had everything: insane (even too much) speed, giga damage, and good tankiness. The main problem for me was positioning. If you're not standing perfectly, no projectile hits = no leech = insta death. I tested it briefly without Nimiz, but that had its own shortcomings. I always had Armor Stacker in the back of my mind, but my two attempts failed miserably. The prices for Voices alone scare me off and would limit the potential from the start. So for the moment, SS Trickster is my build of choice. It's not outstanding in any area, but it doesn't have any major flaws either. Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Im bad at math.

You have summed up PoE.
Pick what you like best and max that out. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

Yeah those ES builds are pretty strong at the moment, I played something similar with bladetrap, and it was very good. Inevitably if something is very strong, GGG will nerf it at some point.
Been interesting to see the stuff you have been doing. A lot of my play happens on builds below that, either on league start or SSF. Occasionally if I reroll in trade I play through to that build level. Interesting to see some of those build mechanics without playing them though. That last one you were doing with the ailments seemed pretty interesting. Have you looked at any strength stacking builds? Ones with choas damage and 2 hand sword. I haven't played one myself. Probably pretty expensive at top end, looked like they were strong for delving about a year back. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Sep 22, 2025, 10:08:37 AM
