Sprinting with Amanamu's Gaze
I'm aware that this is not the first topic posted on this subject. However, I saw that a dev took notice of this issue over a week ago in this thread:

Lots of minion builds are having a rough time right now because of how valuable the Bones of Ullr are for them, yet the boots have a good bit less movement speed than what other boots can provide. The Amanamu's Gaze socketable can thankfully ameliorate this when used with enough spirit, a nice synergistic interaction with minion builds. This in itself would not be a problem, if using the jewel did not affect sprinting in a way that looks unintended. It's tough to verify, but with 39% movement speed on my character sheet from the jewel, I seem to actually move slower than walking while holding sprint. Even if that is not actually the case, something is clearly wonky with this interaction given how your character's speed takes a nosedive immediately after entering the animation. Other users point out that the line "Other Modifiers to Movement Speed do not apply" should render the user unaffected by slows, but I am not going to touch that beyond bringing it up. The point of this post is simply to bring attention to the sprinting interaction, which to my eyes appears to be a bug. Is that the case? So, I went looking after the recent 0.3.1 patch, seeing that this interaction was not mentioned anywhere in the bug fix section of the patch notes.
I found that a day before my original post, this interaction was confirmed to be intended by the same dev as the other thread I linked previously: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3854700 " I strongly disagree with this assessment, and it seems to be a popularly held view by players that it should not be intended. The fact that you can still sprint at all with Amanamu's Gaze socketed on your character's gear shows that this was likely not thought out very well when the item was implemented. Sprinting with it equipped is a net loss for your character, and serves only to make one vulnerable to heavy stun. Please reconsider this interaction, GGG. Sprinting is a very nice quality of life addition to the game, and plenty of boots can easily achieve 40%+ movement speed without such a penalty. I am not saying to remove the "do not apply" line, but that some sort of exception be made for the particular modifier that sprint applies. |
