POE2 is still not in a good place, it's not what you think
Yeah, the content is decent now. The balance leaves a lot to be desired. The graphics are great if you have a $10k rig. It's still got a long way to go but had promise.
So, why is it not in a good place? The game is terribly ineffecient. Both with graphics and with networking. I think everyone knows how bad it is on graphical load. So I won't speak to that. But if you ever pay attention to the network usage, or ever play with some latency, you'd be amazed at how much of the 150GB game is sending and receiving data. Its my thought that this will be a detriment to the playability of the game. The sad part is, most people won't even know it. Play with a latency of 300+ and the endgame becomes almost unplayable. You might stand still in your own hideout looking at a latency of 28ms but simply moving your character around can spike your latency absurd amounts. For a 150GB game you'd think there's a lot of work done locally, but I fear it's not the right work. I've got tons of CPU ready to do work. The GPU is loaded basically all the time. The problem extends into playing/trading with others as well. It's pretty crap. It's very much masked by the plethora of other performance problems. I wouldn't be surprised if GGG doesn't even have a direction to take for improving the games performance. When there's complaints, they just nerf things on the surface. Remember folks, this game is marketed to run on handhelds and console and it does not run in any sort of competitive way at endgame. Last bumped on Sep 13, 2025, 7:40:00 AM
