Abyss Rares, what is the intended counterplay?

Let me preface this with that I'm having a great time with 0.3 - however, abyss rares are extremely deadly and it isn't quite clear to me what the intended counterplay is.

I'm playing melee (hollow palm) and I cannot sustain life while near an abyss rare (or rather the green ground dots they drop); life potions apparently have no effect while in the goo. Occasionally I lure them out of their goo and can try to deal damage - but they usually create more ground dots before I can do significant damage.

What is the intention? How am I supposed to fight these things?

I'm going full off meta Hollow Palm build and I can safely say that the intended counterplay for the rares is to just not be melee lol

Sometimes they have a small aura around them that just melts you. The Cthulhu squid Wizard deals a ton of damage with just the zapping autoattack and the only thing you can do against it is to be always stafing, so no melee allowed.
They also keep autozapping you while heavy stunned, because why not.

I guess you just have to try to maximize chaos res and go for the long run against them.
I've got 85% chaos res, so I don't think that is the solution.

I'm full melee with my Amazon. Well to be precise mainly melee with Primal Strike and who throws LS at melee range because I like to fight up close and personal.

I got 60% evasion, 80% deflection, 45 energy shield (YES 45, NOT 450. NOT 4500), with 2K health. I just facetank them basically. My res is 75% with 10% life/mana leech on gear. My damage isn't OP like Deadeye but because I can tank and fight up close and personal, I make up the lack of damage by being able to stay on the fight and deal more damage than running away.

I shock, electrocute, and stun them too. In 9/10 of encounters I always win in T15 maps.

lets see, with recent patch we got:

-buffs to already strong range classes
-some new upgraded basis
-lots of easy crafting options aimed at weapons
-hell on earth around mobs that can pop you as soon as they enter your fov
-so many VFX that will melt your rig if they render on your screen

i'm no scientist but i think the intention is to off screen them
No Mr. Bond... you're supposed to die.

I love it when 3 abyss rares all hit me with the giant green lantern laser beam of insta death from off screen while my minion ants cower behind me. My fault for only having 75% res.'s and 10k Life pool ( 2k life, 7k ES and 1k pull from mana first). I nEeD 2 gEt GOod.

If they are talking about the field I think they are then the damage is physical, I know green you would think is choas but no it's physical damage, and it prevents any sort of regeneration or was it recouperation....
I took a glance at it by pausing the game and just looking at the tooltip once.

My opinion is that it does way waaaayyy too much damage for having a no heal bit as well... And the worst are the ones that have that teleport to you with the smoke screen so they alway catch you with it...

Edit: nvm it's your thread but yeah I think the damage field you are talking about is physical.
