DC at end of trial of sek before claiming the ascendancy points, forfeit?

Why is this a thing, why aren't you able to just log back in and claim the points? Is there something I'm missing?

There was a bug in POE1 for some time that was causing DC when entering the reward room of lab. If it is anything like that, I feel your aggravation, one of the worst times to DC.

If it was a random DC, there is not much that can be done, DC's happen and it is just a bad place. If something is causing DC to occur often at that point, they would need to look at it.

Personally, I think the points should be available to spec once the boss is defeated, and see no reason beyond theatrical that they need to be changed in interaction with the trial board itself. The fact is, if you DC just before defeating the boss, or any boss that you can not portal back to, it is the same result. They just need to make sure DC in these areas is not happening with extra frequency.

Yes, I don't understand why you cannot just log back in (if you've killed the boss, out of danger) while in the last room with locked chests. It absolutely blows my mind that a company and game this large hasn't implemented this as of yet, their "small indie dev" status wore off a long time ago.

It seems like that works for the rest of the game, maybe they would make that final area after the boss work like that. It looks to me like you can refund ascendancy points outside of lab now for gold, So they should probably be automatically assigned when boss of last phase is complete. Clicking on the board and receiving them is cool, but not if something like this gets encountered.
