Negative resistance for progressing?
I was wondering why I kept getting one-shot by some bosses even when I had significant elemental resistance... Then I noticed that the game gives a penalty to resistance the further you get. That's a stupid idea.
It undercuts my progress and investment in my character. Even getting gear with high resistance doesn't stop me from getting one-shot from bosses in Act 4. I have about 220 hours in this game now, my progress hits a brick wall every single league, and then I quit and hope it's better the next one. I can never get through the campaign, and I'm getting sick of fighting with the difficulty whiplash. I feel like a lot of bosses are over-designed, and all of the penalties from progressing the campaign are making me lose interest. Last bumped on Sep 10, 2025, 5:23:26 PM

Lowering your resistances as you get further, is so you actually need to update your gear. More powerfull modifiers become availible as you level up, and making resistance not scale, would break this.
Imagine going to maps, with 1-2 gear pieces fully capping all your resistances. That would make resistance a close to worthless stat. |

Yeah I don't know how you have gotten 220 hours and just realized your resistances weren't capped. When you complete the campaign it even tells you about the penalty in the chat window...

They *could* fix this by removing the penalties and reducing every instance of +resist by ~40%. It has always rubbed me the wrong way and PoE2 was a good chance to get rid of this from PoE1.
