"free" unique skins?

Coming from Warframe, I like "fashion frame". Where you dress up your character! Some unique body armors look really cool but they don't fit my build. I understand you have paid MTX but what about an option to use unique armor pieces as cosmetic after dropping them in game?

Think they offer skin transfer but it’s paid.

Where would I find that? If it works how I think it does & doesn't cost too much, I'm down.

Skin transfers are like a few bucks a piece. They are per use items. Example. You have a axe you wanna use as a mtx, you use a skin transfer on the axe and it replaced the skin, until you "reclaim" the axe again aka disabling it. Once you disable it, you have to buy a new one so don't do that if you Wana keep using it.

The skin transfers you buy in the cash shop are single use consumables. You can take the appearance of one item (let's call it Gear 1) and apply it to another (Gear 2) losing the original Gear 1 and the consumable in the process.

If you later remove the transmog skin from Gear 2, you do get Gear 1 back but not the MTX skin transfer item. You have to buy another one.

It would be better (even if they charged more) for an option to unlock a specific appearance that you could then apply to any armor in the future, but sadly that's not the case.
