Shark fin quest
Does it really mean something to carry it from near the beginning of act 4 to the very end of act 4?

Found this out on my second character but you can take it straight to Ngakanu right after you get it and turn it in before progressing the campaign. I don't recall the quest marker being present but if you talk to the npc, she will take it from you and give you the reward.

Yeah, it's possible to get rid of the shark fin immediately after you get it (most of the time, there is a specific unlucky order you can do the islands in I guess).
My issue with this quest isn't so much with how long you have to carry it, as with how unclear the game is with who you're supposed to bring it to. "Find something to do with the shark fin" is about as vague as it gets, and the person you give it to isn't in the zone where you get it, she isn't a major plot character you're forced to talk to in order to complete the main quest of the act, she isn't a town NPC you're interacting with regularly, etc. My first time through act 4, I was still holding the fin in the interludes because I just... never talked to this person, and I forgot I even had it after a while. That's already pretty terrible quest design, but it's made so much worse by the inability to ask other characters about it. Even if the person you turn the fin into doesn't change, the game should give hints about what kind of person you're looking for. I know the game's not finished, blah blah blah, but the quests in Diablo ONE knew not to do this sort of thing; if there's an item clogging up inventory space, you can always ask the people in town about it and they'll direct you to the correct person. |
