The Many Flaws Of Reap
Reap was added with The Third Edict as a weapon for the blood mage to use, which has been missing a lot of the core physical spells she would really need. The problem is, it makes no sense.
Reap is AoE, Physical, Duration, and cannot be triggered. It deals physical damage, and applies critical weakness. But this is an impossible combination of things to ever use. - Since you can only apply one stack of bleeding in this game, there's very little reward to recasting reap. But this has counter-synergy with being a critical weakness applicator, since you would want to cast it as quickly as possible to build CW stacks. - Critical weakness can never be stacked more than a few times with the base skill since it's relatively slow. - Since it no longer targets an area, you can't use unleash or spell cascade to throw the skill more often, which would apply more critical weakness stacks - Since you can't trigger the spell, there's no way to automatically cast it as a secondary means of applying critical weakness - There are no critical weakness support gems, or other skills which really apply it now, not that it would matter since if you care for the critical weakness from Reap, casting another spell would mean not casting reap in the first place. There are a couple simple changes that would really make reap make a lot more sense: 1. Add back Crimson Dance, support gems, or other keystone/notable passives that allow stacking bleed like poison. This fixes punishing the player for recasting reap for its critical weakness. 2. Tweak the tags, or otherwise just allow skill gems like unleash, spell echo, or spell cascade to be applied to the skill. From the tags, it seems that this should be allowable anyways and it's just weird because of the animation the spell has. This would have the effect of letting you quickly dump out critical weakness stacks, as well as covering the ground of the many missing physical spells since a reap build feels very limited right now. 3. As an alternative to (2), you can make CW stacks applied by Reap to refresh their durations whenever a new stack is applied. Then at least reap can be a rewarding tool for longer boss fights.
