Equiping Rings appears to lower DPS

I have a 'Gate Eye Sapphire Ring' with no damage modifier affixes. I equip a Fire Ring with no damage modifier affixes and it lowers the DPS by 400.
If I remove the Sapphire ring and leave the slot empty, the DPS doesn't change. If I equipment the Fire Ring in the blank slot, the DPS lowers. Is this a bug? It seems completely counter logical to loss DPS when equipping a ring to a empty slot. Last bumped on Sep 7, 2025, 5:38:15 PM

It's path of exile 2, I have no uniques equipped.
The rings stats are: I - 21% to Cold Resistance 10% Increased Rarity of Items found +8 to Intelligence 2.8 Life Regeneration per Second 15% Increased Mana Regen Rate -|- I - 24% to Fire Resistance +54 to Evasion Rating +3 to All Attributes +16 to Strength +5 to Dexterity |

" Both of these modifiers increase your maximum Life, even if not by much. Your current Life does not instantly increase to the new maximum; you will need to recover that Life through regeneration, flasks, a Well, etc. The notable passives Initiative and Killer Instinct increase your damage while on Full Life. You're temporarily losing that bonus when you equip the fire res ring. |

Amazing! Thank you for clearly explaining how the passive interaction effected the DPS calc. Honestly was struggling for a good few hours on this one!
