Merchant Tabs = Pay 2 Win?
Ok, I had been seeing in game a bunch of debates about Merchant Tabs being a Pay to Win. I have my opinions but curious what people think.
I bought the first 2 stages of the Early Supporter Pack and I used all my points to buy the Merchant Stash tabs. I have 49 Merchant Stash tabs now. I have made a bunch of sale and mostly it's Chaos Orbs and Exalts If I check my total profit at this point, maybe it's 1 or 2 Divines or maybe less. I don't do price checking. I just put a price that I personally think is okay. I feel Merchant Tabs are more like Pay for Convenience. It gives you a steady stream of currency similar to doing dailies in other games. But not enough currency to buy the godly stuff (yet). If it's Pay to Win, I am not really sure what I am wining with 49 Merchant Tabs. I think it's GGG who is winning with $$$. Edit: Probably 3 stages of the Early Support pack. I only paid 2x so that's why I thought 2 stages Last edited by BigBoom9240#8803 on Sep 6, 2025, 11:18:29 AM Last bumped on Sep 6, 2025, 11:37:58 AM

Personally, I don't see them as "Pay To Win". PoE 2 is not a competitive game in the sense of direct player vs. player competition, so what do you actually "win" by having to pay for stash tabs?
I know that some people like to argue that they give you a "competitive advantage" in the trade system and therefore "classify" as P2W, but that argument to me doesn't really hold any water: First, this is using a redefinition of "winning" to make a point, which is a weak starting position in the first place; it's basically a line drawn in the sand. Besides that, you can fully play and experience everything in the game without ever trading, and that alone makes it not P2W to me. I think "Pay for Convenience" is a good way to put it. |
