No idea what's going on, it used to be a perfectly cromulent skill.

Agreed, it's pretty much just a waste of mana compared to the previous versions.

It's also difficult to target with mouse and keyboard, at least in the typical crowded and frantic fights the game present the player with. The player has to click pretty close to the target, which is not easy when the enemy to cull is in the middle of the horde.
