didnt receive ascendancy points

I was playing duo with my brother (same level) and he died during first time chaos trial. I continued without him, won and claimed ascendancy points whilst he was dead.

We redid the trial together until we won (both survived) and the trial would give item rewards but not ascendancy to my brother when he tried to claim it. We would get the bird boss instead of the chimera boss on some attempts too which i dont think is possible on first chaos trial.
