ability in the new kulemak fight

so in the fight each time you kill him, you pick an empowerment, there are three and the change each phase so I guess there are a lot of combos you can get. anyway, one of the Them is kurgals gaze, and I'm curious what you are supposed to do / how you combat it? I tried to look it up and there doesn't seem to be that level of depth on the fight yet anywhere. the ability looks like the the map boss in poe 1, the labyrinth goddess, where the does the beam and you have to break the line of sight. so in kulemaks arena there are 6 figures that line the arena and if you pick kurgals gaze, they all make a beam to you that degenes you and just melts you. there is nothing in the arena to break the line of sight. does anyone know what the mechanic is, or what you are supposed to do??

If you hover over the debuff you get when the beams connect it literally says to stop moving to break the connection.
