What makes these games boring quick and different from Diablo 2 is the skills

In diablo 2, i used basic skills until a certain level/part of the game, then acts later I am given more powerful abilities. In this game I am given powerful abilities from the start with nothing to look forward to but gear, for example my lightning spear huntress, got lightning spear half way through act 1, my most powerful ability and playing the huntress now has gotten boring and I am only about half way through act 2.
