Abyss holes closing/sealing without chest rules?

does anyone know what is the formula here? i just completed early campaign mechanic, 1 hole, 3 cracks, all sealed VERY fast. i don't think you could of done it faster. and its the first time i got no chest form the mechanic (just the lid) previously even doing them slow would always yield at least one... any ideas here?

In your travels thoughout Wraeclast you will encounter fissures in the ground, sapping the life force of the monsters above. Slaying these monsters will trigger the Abyssal to emerge, enhanced with extra necromantic abilities from those who power they were draining. You will need to defeat them to close the Abyss.

Abysses increase in size, power and variety as you go through the game. Closing them will reveal Abyssal troves with valuable items, and sometimes allow you to travel underground to engage with the Abyssal directly.

So that's the official description. I'm only in the campaign, but I don't understand how these things work. I first thought they were timed, then thought they weren't, but then some closed and just sealed off without a cache, so I don't really know wtf is going on. Like many GGG things, it's not really explained and may also be buggy.
I think that if some closes the one raising would be +/better loot...

i don't think so, once i got 3 cashes with 2 blue and 1 rare and sometimes 2 lids and one blue, and well this time 1 lid- altho in that area there was a second abyss that gave a blue cashe. so maybe it got 'split'? it was on the other side of the area tho :/
