Dark Effigy does not recognize blackflame covenant ignite as a chaos dot
|
When igniting an enemy with a fire spell and blackflame covenant, the resulting ignite does chaos damage over time. However, dark effigy does not recognize it as a chaos dot and does not shoot projectiles at the ignited enemy.
Similarly, I'm not sure if contagion correctly spreads a blackflame ignite - I don't think it does. But it should because contagion spreads all chaos dot and refreshes duration (this is definitely the case as patch notes a while ago said "Fixed a bug where the Contagion Skill was not spreading Poison."). https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile2builds/comments/1n3upsd/blackflame_covenant_and_contagion/ Last edited by ciron#2341 on Aug 31, 2025, 10:00:24 PM Last bumped on Jan 20, 2026, 5:46:07 AM

Can confirm that Contagion does not spread the chaos ignites. I made a post about it already but never got around to testing Dark Effigy.
For whatever reason, the Blackflame ignite is not marked as a chaos effect. |

This is not a bug since chaos fire is a damaging ailment
Effigy requires a damaging debuff and there is 4 I know of which are Contagion Essence drain decaying hex support and poison. Pro tip, use poison instead of fire. Namely decompose or any other poison cloud creator, like gas arrow for example. And then to reapply also give effigy a chance to poison support so it will hit unpoisoned mobs with its aoe and also start shooting them. Another pro tip with decompose, add the other support in which grows ground effects for massive poison clouds, and use poisoned ground 3 aswell That way the poison cannot be exploded by fire. Although decompose poison cloud explosion seems to deal even more damage than volatile dead because thats fire damage and naturally you scale some chaos, not fire Hope that helps Last edited by fambaa#5973 on Sep 8, 2025, 4:45:00 AM

" Ailments *ARE* debuffs. The way terminology in this game works is heirichal. In other words ailment is a subtype of debuff, along with other subtypes like curses, slows and other status effects like ED. The game even states it as such: Ailments are a family of common Debuffs associated with specific damage types. The list of Ailments is: Bleeding, Ignite, Chill, Freeze, Shock, Electrocute, and Poison. You can find this yourself in-game by hovering over the underlined word ailment in certain descriptions and pressing ALT. With all this in mind there is no reason to believe that both contagion and dark effigy should not work with ignite once you take Darkflame Covenant. Please fact check before posting something like this to avoid misinformation. Last edited by FulgurFelis#2918 on Jan 20, 2026, 5:51:57 AM
