Anyone remember the "trick" to make advanced item stats appear forever and can you still do it?

There used to be a way when interacting with the stash and also vendors that made it so advanced stats would appear by default without needing to hit RS. I either forgot how to do it or they patched it =/. I thought it involved holding RS while also exiting the stash or something
