Trial of Chaos will never be good.
Disclaimer I just died in the trial of chaos (softcore) so this may be slightly bias to my death as well as the terrible rant grammar. (I play a Deadeye have since launch. PConC launch. Ice Shot Hunt league as well as this league.)
I don't know this system just seems so flawed. I don't understand how ToC (chaos) will ever be better than its counterpart Trial of Sekhemas. For starters ToC ONLY gives negative Modifiers with a strict choice of three sometimes (often) all roll very difficult additions to your trial leaving no choice but to either be bricked or struggle to hopefully not die to compounding bs mods. Meanwhile ToS (Sekhemas) does give negative mods but ALSO can give extremely powerful mods which can counter the negative mods. ToS also has bricked run mods and you can be forced into taking them by taking a bad route but a lot of the mapping of ToS can be chosen by you to sometimes sacrifice maybe gaining a boon or more water to just take the safest route possible. OR you can take a more dangerous route if you feel you have the build capable of doing so. Ultimately there are SO many more ways to avoid a bricked run. Chaos having three rotating bosses is also such a head scratching moment like what?? I have compounding bs mods that make runs just exponentially more difficult on all classes and then when I make it to the boss room (which is actually super easy to do the bosses itself are the one shot with enough negative mods) I have a random selection of three (pray it's Uxmal) two of which are significantly harder than the other third. Uxmal I can probably kill first run every time. The blood bird and the sky bird (couldn't tell you their names) show up every so often and for blood bird I die every single minion spawn phase and for sky bird I just die to the first mechanic almost every time. I can't practice these bosses anywhere else and if I want to I have to run a ToC and pray I get subtle enough mods to allow me to even focus on the fight. So I roll the dice, if I get a bird I'm almost always screwed. If I get my saving grace Uxmal I know I'll be getting my points in. I just don't understand the philosophy of having such a punishing trial and its counterpart having so much more depth of strategy and playability. I'm not sure what I expect ranting here I'm typing this because I'm frustrated and have nowhere else to rant. I understand there's such thing as a "Skill issue" but I have yet to see anyone on any class make it through a ToC the same way they do a ToS. Am I the only one confused on why these two feel so polar to achieve the same goal? thank you rant over. Last bumped on Aug 30, 2025, 5:26:51 PM

EDIT: I killed Chaos Bird during minion phase. Not sure if its been changed but felt much easier. Maybe lucky mods maybe its been changed since I last faced him. But I did it gold star for me. I still stand by my statements above ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Both trials are bad, and only cater to a tiny % of players. GGG loves pulling stuff like this.

They are fine in my opinion.

Both trials suck in their own way.
Sekhemas honor system sucks. The trial could be a lot better if they removed honor and did something else instead. For the 3rd and especially the 4th sets of points its too long. Chaos - no comment. Very punishing and too RNG. The mods are too powerful especially for lower level people trying to get the points. This needs to be balanced for early - mid game. They can keep the trials as is after the points are obtained, for those who want to farm them for loot. I still can't believe they chose the two most un-popular league mechanics from POE1 and made them into trials that are obligatory to do, especially the chaos one. |
