How do I register a new email address when I have lost access to my old email account? (Pirated and Abused)

I have had this account registered since 2012 and would hate to lose it and its mtx. Will send a proper email addy, but not publicly.

Not to be That Guy™ - but is this not exactly the type of issue the verification code system was implemented for? Anyone can send an email from an arbitrary address and say "hi that account belongs to me btw" - surely demonstrating access to the account, if OP is able to do so, would help to move this along somewhat? They haven't mentioned being unable to play the game, so...

This is always something I worry about, like what if I would lose access to the email account I've had for a long time. Is there a verification process that is done that we know of? I am asking because this would be something I would try and prepare for beforehand, as a security measure.

Example - lets say I use yahoo, but tomorrow yahoo shuts down, or my account is hacked, I lose the cell phone that 2FA was setup on the account (and I had no backup email on it), is there a process, a concrete process we have to identify people? Or would I be forced to fly out to NZ and knock on the studio's door.

Absolute worst fear with this stuff.
