Pixelated shadows
|
No matter what settings I try out, I always get these pixelated shadows; it looks awful. Does anyone else have this problem?
I made a short video to show the problem, as it isn't easy to show with a simple screenshot. https://youtu.be/oxs6ue-uTic Last bumped on Feb 28, 2026, 2:20:04 AM

GGG, can you give us an option for soft shadows in 0.5, or are you keeping the Minecraft-pixelated-like shadows for the full release? Which looks absolutely terrible.

" You're being more than a little harsh there, tbqh. Early Access games are gonna Early Access... You'd be run off of the forum in short order if GGG implemented better looking shadows and everyone lost 40 FPS in that patch because the new shadows weren't close to being adequately optimised yet, but GGG felt pressured to make that one unhappy person on the forum stop complaining. The thing about buying and playing unfinished games in Early Access is that they're, well, not finished - and if your biggest complaint about a game not yet at version 0.5 is that the shadows don't look nice enough then I think GGG have to be credited for getting a helluva lot right. Nobody is saying the shadows are perfect and shouldn't be touched - but in a fast-paced ARPG I'm pretty sure better performance would win out over better aesthetics every time if GGG were to create a "should we implement unoptimised shadows?" poll. If at the current stage of development GGG can't offer better looking shadows that are equally performant or close, it is what it is. Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.
