Black Cane Phatasm Mercenary Interaction

I have an interesting idea. Currently I am playing guardian ascendancy. Build is Soulwrest with summon phantasm support. Together with Dark Monarch I can summon up to 42 phantasms.

Another phantasm unique is Black Cane, which gives flat physical spell damage to spells(Phantasmal Might) for each summoned phantasm.

I would like to try this unique with Flaming Charlatan Mercenary, because it has phys to fire spells and can also equip spectre.

Are there anyone who has tried this on group play? Yesterday I wanted to try this but I did not encounter the mercenary in 40 maps. I will try to set it up this weekend, but if anyone tried and realized it does not work unless the equipped character spawns the phantasms please let me know so I am not going to waste my time like I did yesterday :).
