Item Exchange trade API/feed

the item exchange has made manual trading of currency items mostly redundant, and so when a player uses their 'price checker' app that makes a request to the trade API what you generally get back is a full list of 'price fixed' items that is not providing you with the accurate/approximate trade value of the item.

...which means the player is then also going to the exchange and fiddling around with the interface just to check the current prices of their drops.

so having a feed (or API request) taken from the exchange accessible in the same manner would be massive and everyone would love you for it. cheers.

Historically, GGG has been reluctant to make changes that facilitate / encourage the use of third-party tools. This policy might've been relaxed in the last few years - but I don't know if it's gone entirely.
I find it difficult to justify optional purchases to support a Tencent-owned development studio that declines to provide customers Technical Support, regardless of how many thousands of euros that customer has spent...
It's not that the Trade Site and Faustus have "different" prices because the item is priced incorrectly, Faustus tend to be more expensive for 2 reasons, Gold Costs and Convenience, TFT has a similar pricing most of the time, and bulkselling in the Trade site (more than 10-20 of something) also comes for different price, TLDR the prices are often correct, if you price check something and put it on a tab you get the "right" amount, in Faustus you can charge "more" and probably its fine too

Also in a probable related note: Jonathan said recently in and interview for PoE2 that they're looking at a new way to trade (taking in account Faustus/Alva) but they need to be very careful about how to approach it.

it's not the price they're actually being traded for via the website, it's the disingenuous listings that make it hard to appraise a bunch of scarabs, because there's 30 listings for 1c when the live sell/buy price is 6-8c for example.

it's maliciously targeting junior players, but worse it's just generally disruptive when trying to assess your wealth/return on investment etc.

personally I think the price checkers' utility is priceless, I don't wanna spend more time than I would otherwise need to get relatively simple information and certainly don't appreciate the malicious intent underlying the issue.

I agree the API shouldn't be made to facilitate the 3rd party app, but I also agree the price fixers do cause a problem. I believe removing the currency that's in the item exchange from the trade site would solve the problem. However, it would create a new reliance on gold. There is a level of price gauging for convenience as mentioned. So there's no win/win solution.

the thing is, players are making god knows how many requests to the trade site API for this purpose and aren't even getting the information they seek.

for the exchange you only need to record the median buy/sell price over the last x minutes, and that can be disseminated at a much lower cost than the millions of trade site API requests. (pretending like I know what I'm talking about).
