Legacy of the Vaal Multiplayer Bug

I was playing multiplayer with a friend and during the legacy of the vaal quest we defeated the boss that rewards the large soul core. My friend placed the core in the infested barrens while I was in the ziggurat encampment and it allowed him through but when I went to do the same the core was already there and the water level had not gone down. This issue remains even after I leave his party and close the game entirely. I still have the soul core there is just one already in the altar and the water level is still up.
