Trade site randomly rate limited me for 30 minutes

Searching for some jewels I suddenly received a rate limit of 1700 seconds with no prior warning. This seems likely an error insofar as I've accidentally double clicked a search and received shorter 60 second rate limits in the past. Suddenly being "banned" from trade for 30m seems excessive.

Furthermore, this didn't occur after searching many trades. I made one search for "Stormshroud" for which only two results returned, one that collapsed a single account listing 6 instances of the jewel, and another collapsing 9 instances. I expanded both to see how many and then ignored both accounts, after which I refreshed the search to receive actual search results. I then refined my search to include an corrupted blood immunity implicit and received my rate limit error.

This isn't a tool, this is the official trade website. Why would rate limiting kick in suddenly at 30m instead of warning sooner with a 60s rate limit that too many requests are being sent?
