Equiping Merc do it rly works?

first of all sorry for my english xD but i hope you understand what i want to ask/say

Like above i wonder if it rly works. Or maybe i miss something. I know i can see by people if they use doryanis that they get -res. but if i use rigwalds ring it wont proc. blackheart give the merc no chaos dmg. my merc has a lot of lightning dmg but i never see shock on enemys and he crit a lot. so do it only count for few items with uniques modifier? has someone maybe deeper information for me if it rly works. or do i have to check there skill too. its hard to tell if you have no real check window for the dmg of the mercs

but they dont share charges with the conduit gloves. i mean i thankfull to know that i stay away from trigger items. but do you have maybe a idea about the dmg part? the lightning dmg part and no shock
