Newbie Feedback – Amazing Game, But...

Hey everyone!

So, I’ve been diving into PoE1 recently, and wow… what an incredible game! Before I started playing seriously, I spent a ton of time studying stuff – PoE Ninja, Path of Building, league starter builds, Craft of Exile, Awakened PoE Trade, all of it. I really wanted to understand the game and go all in.

Right now, I’m level 86 and honestly having a blast! Way more fun than I had in PoE2 so far – mostly because of the faster pace and not needing a year to clear each area 😅 Plus, the skills are crazy fun, and the ascendancy system with the Lab is super cool!

But here’s where things got rough…

When I switched from a league starter to a more mid-tier build, I lost a lot of damage – which is fine, it happens. The real issue is how much gold it takes to respec passive points... and the fact that you can’t reset Atlas points with gold?? I feel completely stuck because I can’t properly fix my build. Getting 7k gold just to reset one point is brutal – and it takes forever.

So yeah, I was having a great time until I hit this wall. I’ve been trying to farm gold even with a weak setup, but dying once just deletes hours of XP progress. Super frustrating.

Still loving the game overall, but being hard-stuck just because I can’t afford to fix my build kinda kills the momentum. And getting punished that hard for dying while trying to progress... yeah, not a great feeling.

Just wanted to share my experience – hopefully this gets looked at!

That's intentional, past the campaign you're supposed to use orbs of regret, not gold. Also you can respec atlas with orbs of unmaking.

It's not a big deal, use PoB for your build and https://poeplanner.com/atlas-tree for atlas.

Path of Exile entered into Open Beta on the 23rd of January, 2013. While this might sound weird, gold was added to the game (outside of Ruthless, at least) on the 26th of July, 2024.

I agree with rzuk892 and I don't. My recommendation for new players would be to try to find a 'best of both worlds' build that you can start off with but which will scale as far as you need it to. You can use Orbs of Regret & run through the side quests that reward refund points, but... I'd say that the general expectation is that a new build means a new character.

If you know what you want to play in end game BEFORE you start you have to change only only a few passives.

By the way, everyone gets a free respec option when a new league starts.
But that will be months in the future.

If you've been using POB then you have understood the power of POBing your changes before relying so heavily on gold to respec.

Also regret orbs exist and can be gotten from vendors via currency exchanging (not faustus exchange).
