Coming back to PoE 1 has shown me how good PoE 2 is (even at an early stage)

I have 3609h of playtime in PoE1 on Steam and around half that amount in standalone I'd say, it has given me MANY great times and headaches, but I promised myself that 3.24 was going to be the last PoE 1 league I'd play, given PoE 2 EA was imminent. I gave it all in 3.24, and made proabably the most powerful character I have ever made (I always go off meta and devise my own builds, for better or worse). CoCviction was the first character I have found fun enough and powerful enough to reach level 100 and do all Ubers. Anyway:

Though I made the decision of not coming back to PoE1, 3.26 announced the return of the Atlas Lore Story Arc, which I find to be the most enjoyable and potent league specific content whenever it had released, so 3.26 peaked my interest greatly. Not only that, Zana was reappearing as a potential central figure again, and we all love her. I was so in for the Secrets of the Atlas!

But it was all a delusion, exiles. I suddenly FELT how badly PoE 1 has aged. The controls, the overwhelming amount of mechanics, the linearity of the thresholds to overcome in order to progress (resistance mitigation is notorious), the exaggerated speed of the game, the emptiness of the campaign and how tedious it actually really is. It just did not work for me anymore. I did not have the motivation to progress. Forgive me, Zana.

And today I went back once more to PoE 2, and "Quality" was the word that was constantly in my mind. Everything is simply better, except the length of the campaign, which is too long for an ARPG. Even in such an early access state, and merely at an 0.2 program build, PoE 2 is far superior to Poe 1. It just feels better, plays better, and delivers better.

Just my opinion, I thought I'd share it with you here.

You find PoE 1's campaign tedious when PoE 2's campaign exists?
hoho take it to feedback where this clearly belongs, but you already knew that.

Hey!
I feel the complete opposit. I hate POE2 and love POE1. I wont play POE2 again. For me it's just the slower, oversiplified version of POE1. I like the complex mechanics of POE1 and I really missed them in POE2.
I hope both game will trive and be successful. More money for GGG so we can enjoy longer the games.
I think its good that the two games is different. Everybody can find what he/she likes.
Enjoy POE2! :)

Cool thoughts; thanks for sharing.

I can just about see what you're talking about in Path of Exile II; there's... less of a distinctly "indie" vibe which PoE 1 has never quite managed to shake off. I could definitely foresee a time in which the sequel becomes my preferred game of the two - personally, I'm just not there yet.

While the indieness (I make up words sometimes) of PoE 1 is a tad painful at times, the earliness of PoE 2 makes it hard for me to grow too invested in it - at least for the moment.

I will say one thing... in the past, I had spent quite a while lampooning the sequel as "Path of Exile Too", because the distinction between the two initially came across - at least to me - as being rather arbitrary, and it being a sequel rather than a series of updates to PoE 1 initially struck me as a marketing-driven decision more than anything. I have now changed my tune on this - in my opinion, the two diverge sufficiently for them to be separate games, and I'm not without some appreciation for GGG wanting to preserve the game we've all come to love. If Blizzard had thought to do the same, perhaps WarCraft III: Refunded wouldn't have been such a shitshow...

Thank you for this information.

You find PoE 1's campaign tedious when PoE 2's campaign exists?

What they said resonates with me.

I could find a ten-hour shift doing something interesting at work less tedious than a five-hour shift during which nothing happens and I'm just sitting around all day with nothing to do.

It might help that I'm biased by PoE 2's campaign not being something I've done dozens of times already and oh my god please not again oh god I'm going all around Act 2 all over again make it end this is the least fun act I've ever played in any ARPG why can't I be 'progressing' instead of going backwards and forwards the whole time make it stop I hate it and the boss sucks

...sorry. Just needed to get that out my system, I guess.
