If you’re experiencing technical issues, read this

I’d like to keep this message short since it’s primarily addressed to GGG. However, the info here will be useful not only for the developers but also for players facing technical problems, even on decent gaming PCs.

I started playing PoE1 a few years ago and encountered some “quirks” with the game engine. This info is gathered from various Reddit and Steam threads. Since PoE2 uses the same engine as the first game, the fixes are largely the same. If you’re stuck with an issue and can’t find an answer on the PoE2 forum, check the PoE1 forum—you’ll likely find detailed solutions there.

Please note that everything below is based on my personal experience and not an absolute truth.

Shaders
I often see people complain that their game glitches after a patch. I think it’s related to shaders. Every time a major patch drops, I manually clear the shader folders to let the game recompile them. It’s crucial to increase your shader cache size in your graphics driver settings (I use NVIDIA). People recommend setting it to 100 GB. It doesn’t usually take up that much space, but over time, it can reach 30–40 GB. Clear shaders not just from the game folder but also from the NVIDIA folder, specifically the DXCACHE. As of writing, my shaders are already 10 GB, and I know they’re only for PoE2.

Microstutters
Stand in your hideout and watch the chat. If microstutters occur when others type in chat, the issue might be there. One fix is to periodically clear the logs folder. The client file contains your chat logs, and deleting it can reduce stutters. For a permanent solution, switch from global 1/2 to another global channel—you can even create your own, like global 6996 or something similar.

Lossless Scaling (optional)
For owners of older PCs, check out this Steam program. I get better FPS by lowering PoE’s resolution in windowed mode, then stretching it with Lossless Scaling using FSR mode. Note that it affects fonts too, so high Sharpness settings might hurt your experience. In PoE, fully disable “max render resolution” (set it to “no upscale”). Choose your Upscale Mode based on your FPS. For very old PCs, you can use frame generation: cap PoE2 at 30 or 60 FPS, then double it with Lossless Scaling. This adds noticeable delay and artifacts (especially when going from 30 to 60), so use it only if you’re sure it’s worth it.

These three points should help in most cases. I also urge GGG to add new upscaling options and finally address the long-standing shader issues.
