(since 2.1) GPU pegs on Character Select screen

Since 0.2.1 was rolled out. the character select screen (and the microtransaction screen for that matter) pegs the gpu (RTX 4070).
Normally sits at 55-60c temp but jumps to 75-80c. All the fans kick on and my card (which is noramly quiet) sounds like Drone mid-flight.
Framerate isnt noticably higher. sits between 60-100fps.

played around with bloom and global illumination without any change in behavior.
