Ascendancy respec fails

I am in act 2 as Ritualist.
I have 30 spirit from king of the myst.

I did the trial of sekhemas and went for the extra ring, sacrifying 25% spirit. having now 23 spirit.

Now I refunded the -25% spirit and went for -elemental res.

Expected outcome:
my spirit goes back to 30

actual outcome:
Still 23 spirit

Frustrating to now having two downsides from the ascendancy...
