POE2 Breach Boss Map Bug?

Hi, I'm new to POE and finally got enough breach splinters to try the breach boss map. When I entered the map I went into the breach hand, saw a timer but no monsters spawned. I walked to the end of the path up to the point that I could and then out of nowehere monsters spawned, my game lagged and I died. Then I respawned into the map, I see the breach hand on the minimap but I don't see it on the map anymore when I walk. Is this a bug or was I just screwed over by lag?

I tried going back to my hidehout, restarting my game but nothing helps.

Did you walk past the boss checkpoint? If you walk past the boss checkpoint and then die on a boss map, it gets wiped clean. It is a ridiculous addition to the game. I don't know why it is even a thing.....
