CI vs. Chaotic Plants Ritual

The ritual that spawns plants that create purple homing chaos explosions sometimes damages me even though I have chaos inoculation. I believe it happens on maps that have a "monsters deal x% of damage as extra element". The extra damage seems to apply to the chaos explosions from the plants maybe? That's my best guess anyway.
