Why is Lightning Spear always firing in the wrong direction?!?

This most commonly occurs when I've just flipped my direction intending to fire in a direction I'm not currently moving in.

What I get is a lower intensity LS usually firing in the direction I'm moving (but not always). If it hits something it does less damage than it would have if it hit what I aimed at.

I think the reason this might not be reported more often is because of forking and bouncing off of the environment. It is fairly common that when this issue occurs, it will bounce off of a nearby wall/object, and I might hit something. But again, that usually feels weaker for some reason. My LS kills all normal mobs it hits, but not when this bug occurs.
