2 companions node is useless

So I got the node for 2 companions on my huntress and a second skill gem to tame a new one but it still says my limit of companions is full and I have one quadrilla... Why make a skill node that just doesn't work at all. I saw on the forums logging in and out worked, but it doesn't for me so wtf is going on?

Try to deactivate your current companion and then tame a new monster. After that activate both companions.
