Grasping Vines and Chaos damage

I use a build with almost all my life reserved and Coruscating Elixir Flask for Chaos damage to be dealt by my shield.

When I encounter a mob which inflicts Grasping Vines and I am not under the effect of my Coruscating Elixir Flask, I get insta killed.

I really don't understand why. Aren't Grasping Vines supposed to only slow and not inflict damage ?

Grasping vines reduces damage taken by 2% up to 10% I believe on full stacks.

But I'm not sure if that has anything to do with why you're being killed.

Old thread, but I was looking something up related to this and I'm wondering if it is toxic vines.

The toxic vines do chaos DOT. I don't know how the type of vines work exactly, but I'm seeing a video of a mob with "inflicts grasping vines" mod and the debuff looks to be the toxic vines icon, which is green, and looks different to the grasping vines icon. Not completely across how it works, but if you have that green icon, it might be the chaos dot. I agree that the grasping vines debuff doesn't mention damage.
