recent issue: game does NOT load all the time

I get a black screen and then the whole thing freezes, becomes unresponsive, and I have to force close it.
I have NEVER had this issue before in 12 years of playing the game.....is this an issue with a recent patch? I can't remember exactly when this started but at least through the Phrecia event until now. Is this the standalone client on macOS, the Steam client on Windows 11, on PlayStation 5, on Xbox Series S, the Epic Games Store client on Windows 10..?
