Does Extraction Support work with Lich's Eternal Life?
Hi,
Trying to understand the interaction for Extraction Support gem. The explanation states that the skills get 35% of damage as extra chaos, and as another line of text skills sacrifice 10% life on use. When I insert the support gem, in-game dmg tooltip increases (both hit and dot). I have read that "extra dmg as" mods only works for hits though, so I am confused. Even for hit part, do I really get the extra dmg if Eternal Life prevents life to change? Gem description does not mention any condition, like Minion Pact for example: Extraction: Supports Spell Skills which cause Damaging Hits. Using supported Spells will cause you to Sacrifice a portion of your Life on use, gaining extra Chaos Damage in exchange. Supported Skills Gain 35% of Damage as extra Chaos Damage Supported Skills Sacrifice 10% of Life on use Minion Pact: Supports damaging skills you use yourself, draining the life from one of your Minions on use in order to boost the skill's damage. Only takes effect if you have a Minion with enough life to drain the full amount. Supported Skills remove 100% of your maximum Life from a nearby Minion on use to deal 30% more damage It would be great if someone can explain the mechanics for me. Cheers, silence is obsidian Last bumped on Sep 21, 2025, 8:14:29 PM

Bump! Would love to know this as well. As of now it is so hard to test, you have to try and trust the numbers that do show more dmg, but since life is not changing, do we really get more dmg?
If nothing else, the tooltip should explain this a bit better. |

It works. (Or at least, should work!)
In cases where you sacrifice a resource, the only requirement is having that resource. If you have less than 10% life remaining, you cannot sacrifice it for extra damage. Lich's ascendancy prevents life from changing, so you should get the damage boost. It would only apply to the hit portion of your spell, not DoT, except where DoT is a side effect of damage. (ignites with Blackflame Covenant or Poison damage for e.g.) Not entirely sure about that part. The above is inferred from Lich's interaction with The Last Lament crossbow, where sacrificing 300 life causes it to never consume the last bolt. In that case, sacrifice effects work even though you don't lose life. In cases where it has a second requirement, such as Demon Stitcher's sacrifice for ES, you do need to actually sacrifice the Life to gain ES. This is specified in that case: Sacrifice (5–15)% of Life to gain that much Energy Shield when you Cast a Spell. So Lich cannot gain a benefit from these, unless they don't have Life Cannot Change While You Have ES allocated. TL/DR: if it's not specified that you must actually lose life, then sacrifice + Lich ascendancy generally means it gains the positive/negative effect without sacrificing life. Hope this helps. |
