Embitter support gem question

Hello,

I only started with POE2, sort of new, but enjoy building things.

I am currently using a frost bolt based build and had a question for those with more knowledge:

My wand adds fire and lightning dmg, should I use embitter to turn it back to cold? Or should I let the fire and lightning hit for the chance of shock/ignite from the hits.

Total damage on frost bolt goes up about 15% from embitter, so I am 99% sure that this is the right answer.

I would use embitter.

Things to remember:

1) Chance to inflict status ailments depends on magnitude of damage dealt vs ailment threshold. The percent chance of inflicting shock/ignite will be non-zero, but is that worth the potential damage trade-off?

2) Damage trade-off will depend on your build. If your build or other support gems buff cold damage, absolutely use embitter as the converted damage will now also scale with other modifiers.

That's what I was thinking. I would really only want the shock ailment for boosting dmg of my cold skills on the affected enemy.

A straight guaranteed increase is better than a small chance at a possibly greater one.

It will help build up more freeze/chill as well, which feeds the cast on freeze.

shock will be around 19-25% so just use embitter

Link a copy to your character on poe2.ninja. Without a detailed look, the increased cold damage may be less than the value you're getting from your shock procs and it may be more beneficial to scale the shock percentage instead. But again, it is hard to say without more informatioin.

That is my build, I know it is not popular, common, or maybe even good. However, I enjoy it and am trying to make it a viable thing.
