Can you guys tell me where Jonathan or other lead devs said they treat poe2 as souls-like game?
I see so much streamer fans that just repeat their words without thinking. People talk so much about "the vision" and "souls like" but i never seen Jonathan or other devs ever even mentioning. The only thing that is present is Steam "souls" tag that is also there because of players.

" Freedom of choice in playstyle? You can be a glass cannon and a few noteable streamers do this often, obviously because streamers are decent gamers and if successful they can clear the content faster allowing for more creation. Then there's plenty of avenues to focus more on defense and cc's, alongside dodge rolling slams and red indicated unblockables. With such builds you can focus on stacking mechanics to amplify a heavy burst or build up increasing DoT. There's benefits to both styles, especially in a game where dieing is punished, especially in hardcore mode. Would I not be thinking if I said there's a Souls-like inspiration inside PoE2 with additionally an avenue to bypass as much of that as they would like by doing a specific few skills combo/glass cannon build? The freedom to choose imo makes PoE2 a current marvel that no old school inspired ARPG can come close too. Last edited by TrunktenUK#3407 on Apr 26, 2025, 4:33:35 AM

Why would they need to mention clear as day gameplay mechanics that require a hell of a lot more input than any older ARPG, top down or not.
Streamers and good gamers are thinking and "The vision" spout is just mainly from a demographic that's sad about the drops/crafting/trading, specific complaints regarding mechanics and "nerfing" of over simplified builds is not a wide criticism (besides perhaps a lack of versatility...in the early beta phase!). " +1000 on this, I'd also love to see where they said this or even eluded to this for that matter. All I've ever heard them say is that they want to build the best game they can that also remains visually readable to someone who doesn't have massive in depth knowledge about the game. I'd also like to see where they say they want the combat in the game to be closer to the ACT 1 feel, I see this said a LOT on the forums and I think it couldn't be further from the truth. I think the player base has taken the term "meaningful combat" to mean that GGG wants to slow the players down. I really don't think that's true or otherwise we wouldn't have seen any of the builds in 0.1 or lightning spear / contagion lich in the current patch. I made a novel length post about it here which I'll link cause I'm too lazy to repeat everything I said there: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3767401 |
