Why the need for movement speed as an affix?

Discussion about game/encounter design and player's abilities and expectations.

As a player I want to be fast because having a higher speed allows me to maneuver and avoid damage from enemies and traveling thru in-game space quicker so you can get back to engaging with those enemies and gameplay.

In designing a fair and engaging combat and enemy encounters I would think the speed would be a crucial part of the equation alongside damage and control of the space, so how could we expect GGG to deliver that when the speed of the player can vary from the negatives to hundreds of percent.

Games can give players tools for speeding themselves up like sprint or mounts which have an opportunity cost or limitations like stamina or different animations while in PoE 2 we already have that when starting an attack which slows us down during it.

So what if we remove the affix altogether? Give the players real tools for traversal or movement which don't interfere with combat design or maybe even compliment it.

Could a simple Sprint button work in PoE 2?

Movement speed must be IMPLICIT, because we dont want boots without that affix. Lot of good boots dont value nothing for that reason.

Can be like belts and charms, now belts are more useful and you can use this suffix for more resistances.

I wish they consider that implicit thing on boots
boots are a problem no movement speed = worthless

weapons are a bigger problem, no +phys dam with +%phys dam = worthless.

the game is balanced around items having very specific affixes to be effective. its poor design.

even with a 600+ dps weapons some bosses still feel like damage sponges at endgame.

and on the flip side some white mobs are capable of one shotting even the most defense heavy builds

but hey what do i know except to accept "the vision"

Completely agree here. I'm also yelling this in a lot of topics. I would also add Spell damage on mage weapns and increased resis/defenses in the list of mandatory stats.
Yeah, completely agree on the itemization and affixes we get. Its not existing its mundane and mandatory. You build your character around the skill, passive tree and any unique effect you want but equipment is there just to plug the holes in your boat.
