game crashed when picking ascendancy

how do I get back to the place to chose the ascendancy? no way point that i see...

If you crashed you might have to redo it. Maybe.
The first ascendancy points / choosing your ascendancy is in Act 2 waypoint "The Trial of the Sekhemas" , might be a option on your Desert Map aswell if the waypoint is not showing up. |

it's trying to get me to do the trial again, I have the quest to pick but no way to get to the end unless I spend the time getting back there, I don't see that being acceptable.

Sadly you will have too or you can spend between 30-50 exalts on a carry and get all 8 points in one wack. Check out The Forbidden Trove discord if this an option you want to take.
