Random Generated Infinite Atlas - I like it.
Putting aside the issues that plague the game, i really like the direction the atlas has taken. Even though, in the end, you're still running maps of the same tile sets over and over again, the way the atlas works, creates a little mini journey for you to play, at your own pace, which should work out well for everyone.
I really like the idea and implementation... mostly. I think that you are out of your minds if you think the currency drop rates are ok atm, GGG. They seriously are not OK. IIRC, there was a comment along the lines of "Everyone should be slammin exalts" ... Haha @ That. Maybe if you stopped catering to RMT drop rates, we could, but the game does not drop enough currency for a player to play comfortable at all. In fact, the game doesnt even drop enough currency for the average player to keep up with the RMT / Bot crowd, and price fixing. Its atrocious. None the less, i do like the 'Delve' like style the new atlas has taken, and i think many others might enjoy it more if you got rid of the dumb shenannigans and actually gave us some fucking currency to play the game. Or... was your goal all along to get everyone to play the "trade" game. If so, that almost reeks of you being in on the shady shit, no? GGG - Why you no? I'm partly a fan of it, but also I hate it.
I like to grind maps, but I like to grind maps I like to play. Almost everyone I know who plays the game avoids certain maps. Vaal Factory is a common one. Augury, Seepage, etc. People don't like certain layouts for certain builds. In POE1 it was common to farm one map, especially with Divination Cards as a reward in some like Burial Grounds. It was also for playstyle. Some builds are better in open maps, like Steppes and Willow, but some builds like the linear maps where one path is the only option. Some like the closed wall maps (like Augury) where you can use those walls as defensive options to run away like I do during tasty Expeditions. Overall I want to be able to pick the maps I do, but the current system (albeit quite nice for the way it extends and introduces new maps) is very restrictive with playstyles and setting up your risk/reward in density, evasiveness and how randomly your map is juiced from towers. It's also a complete nightmare for finding corrupted nexus and citadels, even with the beams and towers popping out of the mist. I've done 200 hours in the last 2 weeks, and I only saw my first citadel beam a couple of days ago. I headed towards it and found myself having to move around a huge blocking water zone. It's a good 20 maps to get to it. Doesn't sound like much but when it's maps that aren't juiced (as you are travelling), it's not near any of the Nexus, it's running maps you don't really want to play and feels like if you get there and die on the citadel boss you wasted multiple days of playtime and having to get the RNG to find another citadel, and on top of that you need 3 of them.... it's not right yet. It needs some tweaking and more abilities like the Unique Precursor that lets you skip areas (or perhaps a currency that can let you change a map or skip it to move to the next map). |
