Warrior Passive [Sturdy Metal] - Remove Movement Speed Penalty on Armour
Warriors need more ways to increase movement speed, especially early game. For the "Sturdy Metal" passive node in the starting location for Warrior, I'm proposing to remove movement speed penalty from equipped body armour in addition to increasing armour as shown below. Armour is heavy, but this minor change would go along way to strengthen class fantasy as Warrior's shouldn't be wearing rags to move at a decent pace...
Sturdy Metal (Current) 80% increased Armour from Equipped Body Armour Sturdy Metal (Proposed) 80% increased Armour from Equipped Body Armour Equipped Body Armour no longer has Movement Speed Penalty Plus, as armour is one of the worst defensive mechanics, this would make node more attractive. I agree but this is something that should be addressed in early game where it matters most and won't force warriors to bee-line to any specific nodes.
I'd propose the following mechanics: 1. Have the amount armour slows a character be based on the base amount of armour on the gear. Thus early on the negative speed bonus wouldn't matter as much. 2. As another poster mentioned have one or more nodes on the passive skill tree negate ALL armour movement speed modifiers on all gear. 3. Allow investment into Strength to mitigate against the slowdown that (base) armour has -- possibly even eliminating the penalty at high levels of Strength. Perhaps if you have DOUBLE the strength requirement to wear the armor then you don't have any move speed penalty due to wearing that particular piece?? Now we've given early (and late) warriors multiple different ways to negate MS penalties in a manner that seems as least somewhat reasonable. |

IMHO, it would be a lot better if they just remove move speed penalty instead of making a mandatory passive node like this.
It is just a relic, inherited from poe1 (and, before, from other RPGs). It didn't make sense even on modern poe1, but wasn't a problem there, so it would just be forgotten if it weren't for speedrunners. But here on poe2, it is clearly out of place and need to go. |
