Runic Monsters in Expedition Are Overtuned
Runic monsters in Expedition are disproportionately strong for “common” enemies. Even with capped resistances, they can instantly kill players — often from off-screen — with little to no visual warning. Their runes are frequently hidden under debris, and they detonate extremely quickly, making them difficult to react to or avoid.
This issue is amplified by certain map modifiers like reduced movement speed, and worsens in visually cluttered environments. Playing at range doesn’t help much, as runes can be cast from long distances and remain hard to spot. Overall, their damage output and mechanics feel out of line with the expected difficulty for standard Expedition encounters. Last bumped on Apr 21, 2025, 10:57:22 AM

I don't agree with this personally. They are about as dangerous as they were in POE1. Templates could use more visibility but it depends on your visual clarity (if you are running Vaal Guards for example, you cannot see them). They also explode quickly (seems like 0.75-1.0 seconds). However that means you need tactical play knowing they are there. Just keep moving or roll if it lands under you. It's not hard to avoid if you pay attention.
If you get hit and they are one-shotting you, then your defenses are not up to the task. I can take 4 of them straight up on a witch. They are also never offscreen. They might be cast from offscreen, but they land on your screen. Always underneath you. Tactical play defeats this. If you are running a map with temporal chains and your movement speed is nerfed by the map mods, then don't click it. You know the danger beforehand. It's not just spawned on you. You choose to do it. What I do have a problem with is the risk/reward. Expeditions, compered to POE1, have virtually no worth in doing unless you want the artifact currency for recomb or rog/gwen/tujen crafting. And even then it's not worth the time sink. You can make more currency buying sun artifacts on the currency exchange with your bubblegun currency or a few exalts. They need to up the loot, not just in artifact currency, but in the other loot that can drop. Last edited by MissDerry#3540 on Apr 21, 2025, 10:58:15 AM
