Evasion Needs Some Love
Evasion builds seem to be have inherent problem... all you need is one hit that you will not evade and die.
It does not matter how high your evasion is, at the end it is RNG. It is fun clearing screens after screens with Amazon Lightening Spear, BUT.. that one hit from a baby white monster is all it is going to take to take your fun and 10% exp away. We could use some love to have some additional mitigation without gimping DPS... please. Last bumped on Apr 21, 2025, 2:00:12 PM

In my LS build i have 2k life, 3k ES and 66% evasion and still get one shotted occasionaly by random white mobs or get stunned into a corner and can't escape (with stun threshold on my belt).
Running pure evasion build before was even way worse. Defenses being broken is one of the major pain points in this game right now. |

Evasion, as an avoidance mechanic, is always going to lose if there isn't a mitigation component to evasion.
Normally I would like having some avoidance mechanics esp. if they can be a component of layered defense that allows you to avoid damage, take reduced damage when hit, then avoid more damage until recovery can allow you to take another hit. Combined with energy shield (and life?) to allow you a buffer to get hit (once in a while) Evasion isn't so bad. I think the problem is Evasion + Life or Evasion + Armour + Life doesn't provide enough of a buffer to allow you to take the occasional hit. IMHO both Life and Armour should get their own series of buffs -- not to make Evasion viable but to make those individual parts of the puzzle able to stand equally to other forms of Raw HP, mitigation, avoidance. |

For Evasion they should revert Acrobatics nerf, add the new ES skill gem that they said they would do after deleting Grim Feast, and most of all they need to rework Armour. If they do this for 0.3.0; I'll feel slightly better about defenses
Also, the Wind Dancer nerf was just pure insanity. No clue who is making all these decisions regarding nerfs, but I'm so sick of it Last edited by SpaceFoxyFū#3839 on Apr 21, 2025, 9:51:15 AM

" If you go with any single defensive option you will be left open to something. You need to combine two options. With Evasion the best option is block. Evasion is entropic so you have breakpoints for effectiveness. 26%, 51%, 67%, 76% and 81%. You will get hit at some point so you have to build to negate the hit and unless you go with Acrobatics you will be hit by spell damage which ignores evasion. So pumping Evasion is tough to leave room for other defenses. The most common evasion builds are in a position on the tree where it's hard to get a lot of energy shield to compensate the size of the hit. But they are close to the block chance nodes. So block chance is the best option for min-maxing. You will still get hit from time to time so you have the option to go with evasion/armour hybrid but that still leaves some pretty tasty hits in juiced content. So I don't think that is as viable as it should be due to the lack of maximum life nodes on the passive tree. You also have access to the Parry system now, which can be really good if you like holding down the parry button (as opposed to the Raise Shield counter-part) and get some decent defensive options there. But that will reduce your ability to get block to cap. So I don't think that's the best option either. Ultimately Evasion is where it should be if you choose to use it. It's not the best option and not one you should use alone. Block chance being capped with Evasion is really powerful in combination with moving out of the way (movement speed is generally not an issue and dodge roll is great for increasing evasion situationally). I would like to see more maximum life nodes down the south of the tree to counter the heavy amount of max energy shield nodes at the top of the tree. |

I found Evasion to be OK if you have another layer of defense like a shield. However not all builds use a shield and unless you have very high evasion, Acrobatic isn't that great since the nerf.

Pure evasion does feel very bad and acrobatics being such a nasty nerf on your overall evasion also feels crappy. Overall evasion as a defence is effective on the least amount of things and a gentle breeze knocking you over is not great.
I think pure evasion should feel better than it currently does. |
