Died while paused

I died while the game was paused, causing me to lose the map.
This was incredibly infuriating, as you can imagine.
Sometimes the game gets an incredibly large lagg spike, that freezes everything, and somehow reloads the area I am in, I usually hit esc when that happens, so that when it does try to load, I'm not stuck in a black void getting killed by things I can't see.
But somehow I still got killed...
