Why am I being punished? An honest take.
Since day 1 I have had many ups and downs as expected. I've overall enjoyed the journey as I roll into a sorc and now the new Amazon build. Trying new build types and constantly restating my character has been interesting even through 0.2. My preference has always been in either casting spells or ranging down mobs. So here's the main issue.
Why do I feel like Im being punished for choosing not to engage at melee range within 2m? Monster modifiers Proximal Tangibility is a major punishment. Include mana and life drain modifier and you have a very high chance of death. What would the community say is there was a monster immunity for 3m or closer? Melee would be worthless. There is a difference between challenging and unfair. Furthermore, I don't feel that any mob under unique bosses should have any ability that we ourselves cannot have the ability to also obtain. Evasion Many ranged builds are funneled into high Dex and Evasion. From my understanding, evasion decides the chance to be hit or not hit with physical attacks. When I do get hit, I run a very high chance of being 1 shot or surrounded and destroyed. I feel this needs a change. Evasion should also give the player a chance to evade a portion of the damage being applied. Its not uncommon for a very nimble person to roll with a punch and take off some of its sting. We see that in martial arts quite often. Accuracy + Crit Chance This is the most baffling of all. If a critical hit can be defined as hitting a critical part of a monsters body, how is accuracy not the prime factor in guiding this? I encourage anyone to explain to my how, when luck isn't involved, we don't use accuracy to land a critical shot in ever aspect of ranged engagements. Accuracy should influence critical hit chance as I see it. Lack of sight (forced fog of war) I find that I want to choose skills where I gain dmg boosts at 7m+ away, but I find that impossible most of the time. Not only are mobs dashing at me, but if Im not moving upwards, I cant see more than maybe 5m and react at the same time. I am constantly making rash decisions within melee range on these initial encounters. I find that very immersion-breaking and counter to most all ranged builds. At present, I find that these issues only encourage players into less diversity of builds. I have lost most of my enjoyment in playing anything that uses evasion and accuracy. I feel that I am only using those attributes towards a game-breaking meta build amd nothing more. It is a loss to what can add depth and nuance in my personal opinion. Anyway, just my thoughts. Tell me what you think. I humbly ask for respectful conversation on this. Thanks gang! Last bumped on Apr 19, 2025, 1:39:43 PM
